Christies Beach Computer repairs and support : SSD upgrade for a slow office computer

Today I’m helping out a crash repairer in Christies Beach with one of their office PC’s not booting up to Windows. The manager told me that if you wait long enough it sometimes loads the desktop in Windows 10 after about 10 minutes of loading. I told him that my immediate suspicious were of a slow, old mechanical hard disk dragging the whole system down and said that an SSD upgrade would go a long way to the computers performance (or huge lack thereof). He agreed to go ahead with the upgrade so I took the PC back to my workshop in Hallett Cove and began by installing the new SSD and getting Windows 10 setup on the new drive.

It was very easy to see the chasm of performance difference once the SSD went in – especially now that the system booted up to the Windows 10 desktop in around 10 seconds. That’s a fairly decent performance upgrade from 10 minutes! All up, the didn’t lose any data, they have a system that’s super quick to use and didn’t lose any data at all.

Bellevue Heights computer repairs and support : VOIP phone issues after NBN install

Another one of my long time customers called and said he was connected up to the NBN a few days ago and while the internet side of things was working great, his voip phone wasn’t working at all. He had called his internet provider but unfortunately they weren’t much help and left him high and dry.
I logged into his new modem and immediately noticed his VOIP settings were incorrect and were missing his voip username and password. Without these the VOIP is dead in the water so we called back the support line for his internet service and requested the correct details. Once we had his username and password and these we’re put in place in his modem everything worked great and he was back in action.

Brighton Computer Repairs and Support : SSD upgrade for a four year old laptop

A nice lady from Brighton called this week saying her laptop was running really slow and was becoming very frustrating to use. I asked her how old it was and she guessed about 4 years so I immediately suggested upgrading her slow old 5400rpm standard mechanical hard disk to a high speed SSD. I explained to her that it’s a very painless experience as I clone the data from the old hard disk to the new one so essentially the PC or laptop looks and operates exactly the same – just a whole lot faster.

She agreed to go ahead and within 24 hours she had her laptop back on her desk now running at least 5 times and in some cases even 10 times faster! She was especially happy with the speed the laptop now booted up, how fast it now ran her programs and the fact that all her personal files and work was untouched and exactly as it was before. On top of that she gave her 4 year old laptop a new lease of life and didn’t need to fork out over a thousand dollars on a new one.

Blackwood Computer Repairs and Support : PC won’t browse the internet

I had another odd problem a customer in blackwood was experiencing where their email was sending and receiving OK but they couldn’t browse the internet using any browsers at all (Edge, Firefox, Chrome etc). Their PC could ping Google OK and their laptop connected over wireless browsed the net just fine but their PC wasn’t having any of it.

Long story short – after about half an hour of testing I nailed it down to their antivirus software. Somehow the software had gone a bit haywire (most likely as a result of the latest big Windows 10 update) and was blocking all outgoing HTTP and HTTPS traffic. A simple repair install of their antivirus software and they were back in business!
