A lady from Hallett Cove called me up saying her laptop had crashed and now won’t boot up any further than the white hp logo after hitting the power button. I tested her laptop and immediately could see that her hard disk had died (noises like a seized disk) so unfortunately data recovery wasn’t a likely option. She wanted to know if it was simply a case of binning the laptop and buying a new one or could this one be resurrected. I told her I could fit it with a high speed SSD which would not only bring it back to life but make it around 5 times faster than it ever was. She was more than happy to go ahead and picked up her lighting fast upgraded laptop this afternoon for a fraction of the cost of a new one!

A brand new customer from St Mary’s contacted me this week needing some help setting up the networking in Windows 10 for their Intuit Quicken software. Normally Quickbooks should network to another pc quite easily but after some investigation I was able to locate the problem being with their firewall and internet security settings. Once these settings were corrected  and a few IP and sharing tweaks were applied they were back up and running and properly sharing their quicken accounting data across their wireless network.

A real estate agents office contacted me saying they were having some issues printing to their office printer whenever they had documents that used their custom fonts. I thought this was a little odd at first but after digging a little deeper I was able to find out that they had accidentally installed the post script printer driver on their front pc instead of a standard PCL driver. Once the correct driver was located and installed plus the configuration settings were pulled down from the printer they were back in business printing whatever they like with whatever fonts they chose 🙂

A lawyers office in Christie’s Beach contacted me saying they were having issues accessing the internet and other network resources this morning. I started by investigating their modem which all appeared ok, I then traced their network cables and was able to locate a small 5 port switch under a desk that had been installed years and years ago and had been completely forgotten about. It ended up being a simple case of a faulty 5 port switch that was causing all of the network issues. Once that was replaced they were back in action better than ever.

Today I’m out in the eastern suburbs helping a nice elderly lady set up her new laptop to her wireless printer as well as supplying Office 2016 and getting her all setup with her email. She is planning on going on a cruise in a week or so and wanted to take the laptop with her to keep up on her emails and Facebook 🙂
