Brighton Computer Upgrades : SSD upgrade for an old laptop

Another day, another old laptop being badly slowed down by a worn out dying hard disk. After a complete 1 for 1 data clone onto a brand new high speed SSD this old dog was now up and running like a racing greyhound! My customer was pleasantly surprised at just how much of a difference the new SSD made to the bootup, shutdown and overall use of her laptop.

Glen Osmond Computer Repairs and Support : Samsung Galaxy A5 sync issues

A customer from Glen Osmond called and was having some issues synchronising his new Galaxy A5 phone contacts and calendar with his online google account. He was concerned that if he lost his phone all of his contacts and calendar entries were gone forever and not being backed up to the cloud. After digging through his google account settings and some apps on his phone I realised that his contacts and calendar were being synced to his apple iCloud account from his previous iPhone.
Once these apple apps and settings were removed and his contacts were correctly setup to sync to his google account everything started to work as intended and he could breathe easy knowing that all of his data was safely being replicated to the cloud.

Warradale Computer Support : Wireless Printer troubleshooting

Today’s mission was a wireless printer in a customers house Warradale that just wouldn’t play the game and connect to his laptop after a firmware update on the printer. The printer had worked fine for several months but after this firmware update things went wrong. I’ve seen this sort of thing before several times and it’s often related to the printer not correctly connecting to the wireless router due to the wireless security settings. I logged into the modem and adjusted a few things to make the connection more compatible with the printer and everything suddenly started working again.

Seaford Computer repairs and support : Monitor display problem and wireless drop outs

I had another odd one today, a lady from a crash repairer at Seaford called saying her screen had gone pink and it was difficult to see the text as a result. I automatically assumed it would be a cable fault especially if she was using a VGA cable with pin outputs so when I got on-site this was the first thing I checked by swapping it with a new cable. The funny thing was it fixed part of the issue – namely the monitor not being correctly detected and not displaying the correct 1920×1080 native resolution but the strange pink tint was still there.

I then dug into the monitor configuration through the intel graphics settings and found that someone had accidentally changed the brightness, gamma and contrast for the red channel to max in all values probably in an attempt to fix the resolution issues. I put these back to the default settings and voila – everything looked great again. They also had some issues with their wireless network dropping out which was easily resolved by changing the wireless channel on the modem to another channel that wasn’t getting so much interference from all the other wireless networks in the area.
