A customer from Aberfoyle Park contacted me saying that their 6 month old Acer Nitro Black edition performance laptop had recently developed an issue where it would simply shutdown when the power was removed even though it had well over 80% battery charge. I tested the laptop and checked all of the obvious things but in the end found a forum post of a user with very similar symptoms saying that a bios update fixed the problem. I checked this laptop and it had the original factory bios so I downloaded and flashed the bios to the latest version and it hasn’t crashed on battery power since!
