One of my long time customers in Lonsdalecontacted me saying that none of their PC’scould connect to the common network share after the latest Windows 10 update came through. I suspected that the security settings has been changed somehow after the update was applied so I took a look at the obvious things first. The PC was definitely connected to the modem and all other PC’s could ping the server by computer name so physical networking wasn’t the problem. Next I investigated the share permissions which all looked OK then I noticed that the homegroup setting on the server was set to Public. I set this to Private and also checked all of the other client PC’s and also disabled password security for shares on the server as there was no need for that level of security in their workplace. After all of these settings were adjusted correctly they were good to go and back up and running.
