Today I’m down at the always picturesque Seacliff  helping out a customer who is having some issues with Outlook 2010 after a large update came through. The update brought in some new features but at the same time seemed to break some of the dependencies that Outlook 2010 required to run properly. As the owner of the PC didn’t have their Office 2010 installation CD handy, I had to improvise and was able to get around the problem temporarily by creating a shortcut for Outlook 2010 that made it run in safe mode. This at least allowed us to get into his email, export out his contacts and collect his email settings so I could then set him up in Mozilla Thunderbird instead.
Personally I find Thunderbird to be a much better option for managing your email at and for professionals unless of course you absolutely have to connect to a Microsoft exchange for your email which in that case you have no choice but to use Outlook. In all other cases though, Thunderbird is fast, easy to use, reliable and best of all… completely free.
